The four things people actually mention

We have read a lot of feedback over the years. Almost none of it is about legal argument, and that makes sense, because most clients are not in a position to judge whether a submission was well made. What they can judge is whether they were treated like an adult.

1. They knew what it would cost. The single biggest source of anger at lawyers is a bill that arrives bigger than expected. A fixed fee agreed in writing before the work starts removes that entirely.
2. They understood what was happening. Being told what a committal is, in ordinary words, before you walk into one.
3. Their calls were returned. Waiting a week to hear back from your own solicitor while you have a court date coming is its own kind of stress.
4. They were not judged. People charged with an offence have usually already had a bad enough week. Our job is to defend you, not to have an opinion about you.

Where to read reviews we do not control

We could put a wall of five star quotes on this page. So could anyone, and you would have no way of telling which were real. Instead, look us up on the Google Business Profiles for the Southport and Brisbane offices, where reviews are attached to real accounts and we cannot remove the ones we do not like.

Queensland solicitors are also restricted in how they may advertise outcomes. Under the Legal Profession Act 2007 (Qld) and the Australian Solicitors' Conduct Rules we cannot promise a result, cannot claim to be the best, and must not present past outcomes in a way that implies yours will be the same. Any firm doing that is telling you something about how it operates.

What to ask us at the first appointment

The best test of a firm is not its reviews, it is what happens when you ask direct questions. At your free first appointment, ask these:

• What is the fixed fee, and what is specifically not included in it?
• Who will actually appear for me, and have they done this charge before?
• What is the realistic range of outcomes, including the bad end?
• What happens to my fee if the matter resolves earlier than expected?
• How quickly will you come back to me when I call?

If a firm will not answer those in plain terms before you have paid anything, that is your answer.
