Areas of practice
What we practise in
Nine areas, all of them run from Southport and Brisbane CBD. If a matter falls outside this list, or outside what we do well, we will tell you that at the first appointment instead of taking it on and learning on your file.
How to work out which one you need
Most people arrive knowing what happened to them, not what category it falls into. A rough guide.
- If police have charged you or given you a notice to appear, that is criminal or traffic law. Which one depends on the offence, and some sit in both.
- If you have been served with an application naming you as a respondent and a court date at a Magistrates Court, that is usually a domestic violence protection order.
- If your relationship has ended and there are children or property to sort out, that is family law, and it is federal.
- If the dispute is about money, a contract, a building job or a business, that is litigation or commercial law.
- If you are buying or selling a house, that is conveyancing, and the contract usually has deadlines in it that started running the day you signed.
If you are still not sure, ring 07 5522 5777 and describe what happened. Working out the category is our job, not yours.
